State Representative Brandun Schweizer | Illinois General Assembly
State Representative Brandun Schweizer of Danville has voiced his opposition to the fiscal year 2026 budget, which was recently passed by the Illinois House of Representatives. The vote, according to Schweizer, was along partisan lines.
"Yet again, a record-spending budget passed the House on a purely partisan vote," said Rep. Schweizer. He criticized the budget for increasing taxes on Illinois families and perpetuating what he described as a cycle of "tax, spend, tax, spend."
Schweizer also expressed concerns about the process by which the budget was approved. "The budget process is flawed and unfair," he stated. He pointed out that changes made to the bill did not go back to committee for further debate or input, limiting transparency for both Republican lawmakers and citizens of Illinois.
Further criticizing the process, Schweizer remarked that "the budget was crafted behind closed doors," excluding Republican perspectives while raising taxes on residents who are already financially burdened. He noted that instead of focusing on tax relief and cost-cutting measures, the FY26 budget increased spending by $2 billion compared to last year.
"This isn’t budgeting; this is dysfunction," concluded Schweizer.
