Illinois track and field sets five new records at Pepsi Florida Relays

The Illinois men's and women's track and field team had a strong showing at the first day of the Pepsi Florida Relays on April 4, setting five new top-10 program marks.

In the women's events, Halle Hill moved to second place on the program's all-time leaderboard for the 1500m with a time of 4:13.99, earning her third place in the race and ranking as the 10th-fastest time in the nation. Melissa Wullschleger became the first Illini woman since 2014 to throw a top-10 program mark in the javelin, achieving the program's third-furthest throw of 41.99m, which placed her 18th.

The women's hammer throw event saw three new top-10 program marks. Jordan Koskondy secured second place with a throw of 64.44m, the second-best in program history. Phethisang Makhethe achieved the program's third-best throw at 64.35m, placing sixth, while Abria Smith's throw of 58.25m earned her a 16th-place finish, securing the sixth-best mark.

Rose Yeboah won the high jump invitation with a leap of 1.91m, besting World Champion silver medalist Anna Hall, who cleared 1.88m. Meanwhile, Tori Thomas took silver in the collegiate pole vault, clearing 4.25m.

The team's pursuit of excellence continues tomorrow, April 5, with field events beginning at 8 a.m. and track events starting at 11 a.m. CT, marking the final day of the Pepsi Florida Relays.
