The Fighting Illini women's golf team completed the first round of the Florida State Match Up in Tallahassee, Florida, securing a position just one stroke behind the leading team, Florida State. The Illini finished with a team total of 287 (-1) at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
Illinois has four golfers in the top ten on the individual leaderboard going into the second round. Yurang Li and Lexanne Halama are tied for second place at 2-under (70). Li began her round on hole No. 10, recording a 37 (+1) on the back nine and then achieving a bogey-free 3-under (33) on the front nine. Halama also started on No. 10, scoring an even-par (36) on the back nine and following it with a bogey-free 34 (-2) on the front nine. Both players made four birdies during their rounds.
Li's performance included a 3.70 (-3) scoring average on par 4s, while Halama achieved a 4.25 (-3) scoring average on par 5s; both scores were tied for lowest in their respective categories for this round.
Victoria Zheng is tied for fifth place after shooting an opening round of 71 (-1), making six birdies—the second-highest number among competitors.
Anna Ritter is tied for 25th with a score of 76 (+4), and Brielle Mapanao is tied for 53rd after carding an 80 (+8). Competing individually, Erica Lee is tied for eighth place following her round of 73 (+1).
Mirabel Ting from Florida State leads individually with a score of 6-under (66).
The Fighting Illini will continue competition tomorrow morning with tee times starting at 7:45 a.m. CT.
