The Illinois wrestling team is sending eight athletes to compete in the NCAA Championships at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia from March 20 to 22. This marks the most qualifiers for the program since the 2020 season.

Lucas Byrd leads the group following his recent Big Ten Championship win at 133 pounds. Byrd boasts an impressive record of 18-1, including a pin and several major decisions. "He became Illinois' 79th Big Ten Champion and just the program's second at 133 pounds."

Danny Pucino will compete at 141 pounds after earning an at-large bid. He has a record of 13-6 this year, highlighted by a pin and two major decisions.

Kannon Webster, who earned Second-Team All-Big Ten honors, will represent Illinois at 149 pounds. His season record stands at 14-6 with three pins.

Braeden Scoles qualified for the championships at 165 pounds after finishing fifth in the Big Ten Championships. He has achieved five pins this season, which is a team high.

Danny Braunagel secured his place in the tournament by placing third in his weight class (174 pounds) during the Big Ten Championships. He holds a record of 12-9 with four tech falls.

Edmond Ruth also finished third in his category (184 pounds) to earn his spot. He maintains a strong performance with a perfect record in sudden victory matches.

Zac Braunagel will compete at 197 pounds following his bronze finish in the Big Ten Championships. His twin brother Danny shares similar success with tech fall records this season.

Luke Luffman rounds out Illinois' lineup, qualifying for competition at heavyweight (285 pounds). Luffman placed sixth in his category during conference championships without surrendering any bonus points throughout the season.
