Ritter leads Illini to sixth place after two rounds at Spartan Suncoast Invitational

Fighting Illini women's golf team concluded the first two rounds of the Spartan Suncoast Invitational tied for sixth place, with a team total of 583 (+7) at Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Florida.

Anna Ritter led the Illini, achieving a career-best score of 3-under (69) in the first round and followed it up with a 73 (+1), finishing the day tied for fourth. She made four birdies in each round, totaling eight birdies which is tied for fifth-most among participants.

Lexanne Halama ended her day tied for 16th after shooting rounds of 73 (+1) and 72 (E). Her scoring average on par 4s was 3.90 (-2), which is tied for the second-lowest among competitors. Halama also accumulated eight birdies, tying her for second-most in the tournament.

Brielle Mapanao finished tied for 35th with consecutive rounds of 74 (+2). Victoria Zheng was tied for 43rd after carding rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3), while Yurang Li stood at tie-55th following scores of 78 (+6) and 74 (+2).

Overall, Illinois scored a total of 27 birdies over the two rounds, placing them fourth among competing teams.

Currently, Oklahoma leads as a team at 2-under (574), while Kentucky's Cathryn Brown holds an individual lead at 7-under (137).

The Fighting Illini will resume play tomorrow morning with the third and final round starting at a shotgun time of 7:15 a.m. CT.
