Illinois faced a challenging game against No. 11 Michigan State, ultimately falling 79-65 at the State Farm Center in Champaign. The Illini had initially built a strong lead, ahead by as many as 16 points and maintaining a 14-point advantage with just over six minutes remaining in the first half. However, Michigan State mounted a comeback with a 16-6 run to close the gap to four points by halftime.

The second half saw both teams locked in a tight contest, with neither side leading by more than four points for much of the period. Illinois briefly regained the lead at 65-64 following a jumper from Ben Humrichous but failed to score again as they missed their final 19 shots. This allowed Michigan State to finish the game on a decisive 15-0 run.

Freshmen Morez Johnson Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis were key contributors for Illinois, each scoring 17 points and collecting five rebounds. Will Riley added another dimension with his performance, contributing 13 points while leading the team with seven rebounds and six assists. Tomislav Ivisic also matched Riley's rebound total.

Off the bench, Jake Davis provided eight points for Illinois on efficient shooting.

Looking ahead, Illinois will travel to face No. 16 Wisconsin at Kohl Center on Tuesday evening.

"Kasparas Jakucionis tied for the team lead with 17 points and added five rebounds," noted postgame reports. He has been consistent in scoring double figures this season.

Morez Johnson Jr.'s contribution was highlighted as well: "Scored in double figures for the seventh time this season."

Will Riley's performance was also acknowledged: "Scored in double figures for the six-straight game and for the 16th time this season."

The loss ended Illinois' three-game winning streak against Michigan State at home and marked only their fourth game of being outrebounded this season. Despite this setback, attendance remained strong with Saturday marking their tenth home sellout of the season.
