The Illinois wrestling team, ranked 13th nationally, is set to face the top-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions at Huff Hall in Champaign on Sunday, February 16, at 1 p.m. CT. This event marks the final dual of the season for Illinois and will also serve as senior day, honoring 11 seniors: Danny Braunagel, Zac Braunagel, Lucas Byrd, Caden Ernd, Jake Harrier, Jason Kraisser, Luke Luffman, Isiah Pettigrew, Danny Pucino, Daniel Renshaw and Edmond Ruth.
The Fighting Illini are coming off a strong performance against Purdue with a decisive 35-8 victory on February 1. Key performances included Lucas Byrd's technical fall over Jacob Macatangay and Braeden Scoles' pin against Stoney Buell.
Illinois head coach Mike Poeta holds a record of 23-29 overall and 11-20 in Big Ten competition during his four-year tenure. Lucas Byrd has been a standout this season with an overall record of 14-1 and has moved up to seventh place on Illinois' career win percentage leaderboard.
Braeden Scoles leads the team in falls and dual points while Luke Luffman shares third place in dual points alongside Zac Braunagel and Kannon Webster. Notable achievements include Kannon Webster's fastest fall time among starters and Edmond Ruth leading the team in overtime victories.
