A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Wabash County Sheriff's office on January 7, 2025. The request, made by us at Chambana Sun, seeks access to all arrest records for the year 2024.
The comprehensive list requested includes specific details such as the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed. Our objective is to gather this information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We have requested that these records be provided in an electronic format for ease of dissemination. Furthermore, given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have asked for a fee waiver as a media professional.
