Graduate student Lucas Byrd contributed to the Fighting Illini wrestling team's significant victory over Indiana on December 6 in Indianapolis. The team, ranked No. 11, defeated No. 28 Indiana with a score of 34-3 during the first Big Ten Takedown event.
Byrd, who is ranked No. 2 at 133 pounds, secured his ninth consecutive win this season by defeating Angelo Rini from Indiana with a 3-0 decision. This achievement adds to his growing list of accomplishments in collegiate wrestling.
Having completed an undergraduate degree in recreation, sport, and tourism in fall 2023, Byrd is currently working towards a master's degree in management.
