Illinois baseball has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to a Big Ten Athletics Scholarship Agreement. The announcement was made on Wednesday, and head coach Dan Hartleb expressed his enthusiasm for the new recruits.
"I am extremely excited about the group of great athletes that we have signed to join our Illini family," said Hartleb. He added, "We feel as if this group has the ability to help us to pursue future championships."
Among the new signings is Michael Farina, an infielder from Mundelein, Illinois. Farina had an impressive season at Southeastern Community College in Iowa, with a batting average of .323 and 10 home runs. He helped his team reach the NJCAA Division II World Series and intends to major in criminal justice.
Aidan Flinn, a left-handed pitcher from Mokena, Illinois, also joins the team. Flinn posted a 1.81 ERA over 12 games at Marist High School and was recognized as an East Suburban Catholic All-Conference honoree. He plans to major in business.
Shortstop Lucas Krebs from Edwardsville, Illinois is another recruit. Krebs played a key role in his high school team's success and is ranked highly by Prep Baseball Report and Perfect Game. He aims to study business at Illinois.
Ryan Ohm from Rochester, Minnesota brings his skills as a right-handed pitcher after playing for Iowa Central Community College. Ohm recorded eight wins last season and intends to major in business.
First baseman AJ Putty from McHenry, Illinois rounds out the list of recruits with notable achievements at Huntley High School. Putty's decision was influenced by the welcoming environment at Illinois.
Jack Wheeler from Morris, Illinois will contribute both as a third baseman and right-handed pitcher. Wheeler has been recognized for his athletic prowess across multiple sports during high school.
Finally, Ike Young from Cisco, Illinois joins as a right-handed pitcher who excelled at Monticello High School with a strong performance last season.
Each player expressed their reasons for choosing Illinois University ranging from academic opportunities to feeling at home on campus.
