Yurang Li, a freshman and the newest member of the Illini women's golf team, has shared her experiences during her initial weeks on campus. Originally from Southern California, Li is adjusting to the new environment, including the snow and wind chill that are part of Illinois' weather.
Li described moving into her dorm in January and finding her way around campus as priorities. She noted that experiencing all four seasons and practicing in different weather conditions will benefit her game.
A notable event for Li was a pottery team bonding activity at Springer Cultural Center. "We tried wheel throwing and each of us created multiple masterpieces with clay," she said. Despite some challenges, it was an enjoyable experience for the team.
The team later traveled to Naples, Florida, for a training trip where they played at The Talon Course at TwinEagles and Hideout Golf Club. These courses provided valuable practice opportunities. Li expressed gratitude for connecting with alumni over dinner and thanked host families for their hospitality. She gave special thanks to Mr. Ronald Filler for facilitating this opportunity.
Li acknowledged the challenge of balancing academics and athletics but credited her teammates, coaches, and the Illini family for making her transition smooth. The team's first tournament is scheduled from February 12-14 at the Nexus Collegiate.
"Go Illini!!" concluded Yurang Li's message to Illini Nation.
