Illinois women's golf team places fifth after first round at Nexus Collegiate

The Illinois women's golf team concluded the first round of the Nexus Collegiate in fifth place, achieving a total score of 293 (+5). Yurang Li and Isabel Sy are tied for third after both posted an opening round score of 70 (-2), trailing the leader by two strokes.

Yurang Li, participating in her debut tournament with Illinois, achieved six birdies throughout the day. She was one of five players to reach this number, which is the highest among competitors. Isabel Sy, aiming for her fourth consecutive Top 5 finish, scored an even 36 on the back nine and went 1-under on the front. Sy was also among six players to record an eagle during the round.

Anna Ritter placed in the top half of the leaderboard with a score of 75 (+3). Ritter managed a bogey-free back nine at 1-under and made 13 pars, tying for fourth-most in the field. Lexanne Halama is tied for 46th with a score of 78 (+6), leading the tournament with 16 pars.

Sophia Sulkar, competing individually, is tied for 59th after scoring an opening round of 82 (+10), while Erica Lee is tied for 61st with a total of 83 (+11).

Kentucky leads at 3-under (285) with Laney Frye at the forefront individually at 4-under. The Fighting Illini will continue their efforts tomorrow starting at 6:45 a.m. CT.
