Isabel Sy, a senior on the Illinois women's golf team, recently shared insights into the team's off-season activities. According to Sy, the team has been building on their experiences from the fall season by focusing on individual aspects of their game that can make significant improvements. Practices have utilized GameForge, a program for tracking data and statistics of rounds.
The final team practice included a competition organized by Coach Julie Hovland, featuring a chipping and putting course along with a Trackman test for approach shots. Anna Ritter emerged as the winner of this event.
Off the golf course, the team has been working hard in the gym. They have achieved personal bests in areas such as weights, vertical jumps, and swing speeds. The team completed their second TPI testing of strength, flexibility, and mobility for the year and noted improvements across various areas. Strength coach Emily Schilling received recognition for her support in these achievements.
Before finals began, the team celebrated with a Christmas party that included dinner from Biaggi's, games, and a Secret Santa gift exchange. Following this event, they focused on preparing for their exams.
During winter break, members will spend time with family while some will participate in tournaments. Anna Ritter is set to compete at the Orlando Amateur and Jones Doherty Amateur; Sophia Sulkar at the Orlando Amateur; and Isabel Sy at the Patriot All-America in Arizona.
Sy concluded by wishing everyone happy holidays and expressed anticipation for starting strong in the 2024 spring season.
