Illinois volleyball secured a victory against Ohio State in a five-set match at Huff Hall on Wednesday night. The win advances the Fighting Illini to a 15-12 record for the season, with a 10-7 mark in conference play. Ohio State's record now stands at 10-16, with a 7-10 tally in league matches.
The Illinois team achieved 66 kills and matched their season-high of 12 aces during the game. Raina Terry led with 27 kills, nearly reaching her career best. Jessica Nunge contributed 13 kills, while Kayla Burbage added another 11. Brooke Mosher earned her 15th career double-double by delivering 50 assists and recording 16 digs, also leading with seven aces. Caroline Barnes recorded the highest number of digs for the team at 21, and Cari Bohm contributed five blocks.
In the first set, Illinois took control after trailing initially, closing it out at 25-18 with help from Terry and Kennedy Collins. The second set saw intense competition as both teams battled through multiple ties before Ohio State claimed it at 26-24.
Ohio State carried momentum into the third set, taking an early lead that Illinois could not overcome despite efforts to rally back. The Buckeyes won this set with a score of 25-20.
Illinois responded in the fourth set by building an early lead and maintaining it to win at 25-19 thanks to crucial plays from Nunge and Burbage. In the decisive fifth set, Mosher's three consecutive aces helped establish dominance early on as Illinois sealed their victory with a score of 15-6.
The team's next match will be against Michigan on Saturday night at Huff Hall.
