CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women's gymnastics head coach Josh Nilson has finalized his coaching team with the addition of assistant coach Abby Mueller and director of operations Molly Stuckey. This completes Nilson's first staff since he was appointed head coach on May 20.
Molly Stuckey continues her tenure at Illinois after joining in November, while Abby Mueller returns to her alma mater as an assistant coach.
"I am very excited to welcome Abby back to the Illini family," Nilson stated. "She was a strong and passionate student-athlete for Illinois, and she will now contribute in a different role. We are fortunate to have her back in Champaign as a coach! Welcome home, Abby!"
"Molly is one of the most intelligent people I know," Nilson added. "She is organized, consistent, and has an incredible passion for gymnastics. We are fortunate to have her commit to staying here and helping us as director of operations!"
Abby Mueller spent her collegiate years with the Fighting Illini from 2021-24, achieving Academic All-Big Ten honors during her sophomore through senior years. Originally from Rochester, Minnesota, she holds the program's third-best floor score with a 9.950 achieved at Nebraska in 2024.
"I'm incredibly honored to return to the University of Illinois as an assistant coach," said Mueller. "I believe in the vision Josh brings and the culture we're building: one grounded in trust, hard work, and high standards."
Mueller graduated in May 2024 with a bachelor's degree in recreation, sport, and tourism. She competed under Nilson for one season before spending 2025 at Missouri where she played key roles on vault and beam.
Molly Stuckey hails from Junction City, Kansas and enters her second season with Illinois after serving dual roles last year as an assistant coach alongside operational duties.
"I'm incredibly honored and excited to step into the director of operations role for Illinois Women's Gymnastics," expressed Stuckey. "It's a privilege to join such a passionate and accomplished staff."
Stuckey has been involved with gymnastics judging since 2016 through the National Association of Women's Gymnastics Judges covering NCAA competitions among others. Her experience extends across various clubs nationwide including International Gymnastics Camp.
Stuckey holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M along with credentials in sports management essentials.
