Illinois Volleyball has announced the addition of Kenzie Cogan to its team for the upcoming season. Head coach Chris Tamas confirmed her inclusion alongside three other new players: Christina Martinez Mundo, Ashlyn Philpot, and Laynie Smith.
Cogan hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, where she attended Mount Notre Dame High School and played for Elevation Volleyball Club. She is recognized as a defensive specialist/libero with notable achievements including a state championship win in 2020 and reaching the final four in 2021. Her high school accolades include being named Defensive Player of the Year twice and serving as team captain in her last two years.
Coach Tamas expressed his enthusiasm about Cogan's arrival, stating, "Kenzie will bring a lot to our team. She has played for highly competitive club and high-school programs and has played big roles everywhere she has competed. Kenzie has good range on defense and a nice touch as a passer. She will have an impact the minute she steps foot in the gym for the Illini. We are excited to add Kenzie to the roster and our FamILLy!"
Cogan shared her reasons for choosing Illinois, saying, "I chose Illinois because the people and culture were unmatched. Everyone is extremely supportive and truly wants the best for you. Illinois also gave me a great opportunity to play at the highest level possible in the Big Ten."
