Illinois outside hitter Raina Terry has been recognized with Big Ten Preseason Honors, as announced by the league on Thursday. Terry is among 18 student-athletes from the conference to receive this accolade.
Terry concluded her senior year leading the Big Ten with a total of 618 points and ranking third with 539 kills. Her performance placed her sixth nationally and second in the conference for kills per set, at 4.69, while her points per set stood at seventh in the country and second in the league, at 5.37. By the end of 2023, these statistics were eighth and ninth nationally, respectively.
In conference matches alone, Terry was second in points per set with 5.41 and third in kills per set with 4.72. She also contributed an average of 0.37 aces per set, ranking tenth in the league, with her total of 28 service aces being fifth best.
Last season saw Terry achieve ten matches with over twenty kills, including seven against conference rivals. The six-rotation player also recorded three double-doubles throughout the year and led her team in kills for all but two matches during the season.
Hailing from Marengo, Ohio, Terry became the first Big Ten player to surpass 500 kills last year during a match against Michigan on Senior Night (Nov. 18). In a game against Ohio State, she achieved a personal best of 28 kills within four sets.
After four years playing for Illinois, Terry ranks tenth all-time with a career total of 1,634 kills and fourth all-time with 164 career aces.
The Illinois team will start their season on August 30th facing Cincinnati.
