Four gymnasts from the University of Illinois men's team have achieved significant success at the Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships. Ashton Anaya, Brandon Dang, Connor McCool, and Amari Sewell each won event titles during the competition held at State Farm Center.
The event marked a milestone for the Fighting Illini program, achieving its highest number of individual event winners in eight years since 2016. Anaya, a senior majoring in information sciences with a GPA of 3.39, secured his third consecutive championship on the still rings with a score of 14.200.
Brandon Dang, a freshman studying electrical engineering and maintaining a GPA of 3.49, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year earlier in the week. He won the conference title on the pommel horse with a score of 14.800.
Connor McCool, who holds a perfect GPA as a graduate student in recreation, sport & tourism, became co-champion on the floor exercise for the second year running with a score of 14.500.
Amari Sewell, a junior majoring in community health with a GPA of 3.22, claimed victory in the vault category with an impressive score of 14.825.
