Illinois catcher Camden Janik has been recognized as a member of the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America Third Team, according to an announcement made today. Janik is the first Illinois player to receive All-America honors since Garrett Acton in 2019. He becomes the 36th All-American in the history of the program and is the 17th player during Dan Hartleb's tenure as head coach, which began in 2006, to achieve this distinction.
Earlier this season, Janik was named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Midwest All-Region First Team. His performance on the field has been notable; he ranked tenth among Big Ten batters with a .356 batting average, leading his team. His tally of 80 hits placed him sixth in the conference.
Janik played in 56 games and started 55 for Illinois this season. He posted a slash line of .356/.440/.533, scoring 44 runs, hitting 15 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and driving in 49 RBIs while drawing 29 walks. He was also known for being difficult to strike out, having struck out only 11 times over 225 at-bats. This gave him a K/AVG ratio tied for second-best nationally and marked him as having the fewest strikeouts among players with at least that number of at-bats.
Defensively proficient as well, Janik allowed just nine stolen bases out of sixteen attempts against him throughout the season and successfully threw out seven base runners.
