Illinois catcher Camden Janik has been recognized as part of the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Midwest All-Region First Team, according to an announcement made today. Janik, who was also selected for the All-Big Ten First Team, achieved a .356 batting average, placing him 10th among conference batters and leading his team, the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Throughout the season, Janik played in 56 games and started in 55. His performance included a slash line of .356/.440/.533 with 44 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 49 RBIs, and 29 walks. He was noted for his ability to avoid strikeouts, recording only 11 in 225 at-bats. This statistic places him second nationally in K/AVG ratio and marks him as the highest-rated catcher in this category.

Defensively, Janik allowed nine stolen bases out of 16 attempts during the season and successfully caught seven baserunners. His defensive efficiency stands at 43.8%.

Janik's achievement marks a first for an Illinois player since Cole Kirschsieper earned second-team honors in 2022.
