Illinois women's gymnastics falls to Michigan State in East Lansing

No. 25 Illinois women's gymnastics team faced a challenging meet against No. 18 Michigan State, resulting in a loss with scores of 197.475 to 196.275 at the Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Michigan.

Following this meet, Illinois holds a record of 6-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while Michigan State improves to a 7-3 record and remains undefeated in conference competition at 4-0.

The Illini began the competition on bars, where Mia Takekawa and Lyden Saltness led their team with scores of 9.875 each. On vault, senior Kaydn Fitzgibbon achieved Illinois' top score with a 9.775.

On the floor exercise, Mia Townes delivered the highest score for Illinois with a 9.925, just .25 points shy of first place. Allie Morgan scored a 9.850, while Kadyn Fitzgibbon and Abby Mueller both earned scores of 9.825.

The team concluded on beam, where Takekawa not only achieved a season-high score of 9.950 but also secured an event win. Kaitlyn Ewald and Ruthuja Nataraj contributed solid performances with scores of 9.85 each.

Illinois will compete next at the GymQuarters Invitational against No. 12 Missouri, No. 6 Florida, and Lindenwood on February 16 at St. Louis, Missouri.
