Illinois women’s gymnastics prepares for challenging weekend events

The Illinois women's gymnastics team is set to compete in the 2024 GymQuarters Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri. The event will take place on Friday, February 16 at 6 p.m. CT at Family Arena. The team will face strong competition from No. 6 Florida, No. 14 Missouri, and Lindenwood.

Following the invitational, Illinois will return home to host the No. 15 Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday, February 18 at 2 p.m. CT for Student Night.

Florida's team includes highly ranked gymnasts such as Leanne Wong, who is seventh on vault and sixth in all-around; Anya Pilgrim and Victoria Nguyen are tied for ninth on vault; Ellie Lazzari ranks eighth on bars; Pilgrim also holds an 18th position on beam and is ranked 15th in all-around; Sloane Blakely is positioned at 22nd on beam.

Missouri boasts several notable gymnasts: Hannah Horton is ranked 18th on vault; Jocelyn Moore ranks fourth on floor and also holds a position of 22nd on vault; Amari Celestine stands at 25th on vault while Mara Titarsolej is placed at the same rank for bars.

Minnesota's Mya Hooten has achieved two perfect scores of 10.0 this year and currently ranks seventh on floor and fourteenth on vault. Brooklyn Rowray leads nationally in beam rankings with her highest score being a near-perfect 9.975 obtained during the Super 16 Gymnastics Championships, although she hasn't competed since then.

Illinois' Mia Takekawa has improved her ranking significantly in the beam category, moving from seventeenth last week to eighth after scoring a season-high mark of 9.950.
