The Illinois women's gymnastics team, ranked 25th in the nation, is set to face off against 10th-ranked Michigan State in a Big Ten competition. The event will take place at the Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Michigan, on Friday evening at 6 p.m. CT.
Historically, Illinois and Michigan State have been regular competitors since 1976. The Spartans hold a slight edge with a record of 21-18-1 over the Illini. Notably, Michigan State secured victories in their last three encounters: first in 2020 with scores of 195.775-196.150, then in 2022 with scores of 196.450-197.425, and most recently in 2023 with scores of 196.425-197.450.
Michigan State enters this matchup after an impressive win against No. 11 Michigan, achieving a score of 198.050-197.625 and surpassing the notable 198-point mark.
Sophomore Sage Kellerman contributed significantly to the Spartans' success by scoring her second perfect 10.0 on vault during the competition, marking their third perfect score of the season following sophomore Nikki Smith's perfect vault on January 28 against Iowa.
Illinois arrives at this contest ranked No. 25 nationally after securing a victory over Rutgers with a score of 195.650.
Mia Takekawa from Illinois has also achieved recognition by earning a ranking of No. 17 after posting a beam score of 9.875 at Huff Hall.
