On September 26, 2024, we at Chambana Sun sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Champaign County. The request was made in line with our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The records requested were for all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until September 26, 2024. The information sought includes the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and the amount paid. This data is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as a media organization that holds public institutions accountable and provides transparency to the public.

In other news related to state finances, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced in July 2023 an extensive multi-year program called Rebuild Illinois. This program aims to improve and repair all modes of transportation across the state. Governor JB Pritzker highlighted that over the next six years, they plan to invest over $40 billion into various transportation modes.

Ten major projects are being planned or implemented in Chicago under this program with an investment of $396 million dedicated to improving safety and mobility on Illinois's roads and bridges. Three out of these ten projects are scheduled for completion in 2024 while the remaining seven are projected for completion between 2025 through 2030.

Furthermore, Kane County will see an investment of $107 million in seven projects under the Rebuild Illinois program. In central Cook County, ten projects are set to be constructed involving roads and bridges with an investment of $220 million.

As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability, we will continue tracking these developments closely and providing updates as they unfold.
