Eric Toga presents at University of Illinois’ annual Black & Latinx Summit

On February 24, 2024, Eric Toga from the Equity and Engagement Department attended the University of Illinois’ annual Black & Latinx Summit where he spoke about "Resistance in Resilience : Intertwining Our Roots Standing Our Ground".

In his presentation, Toga highlighted the importance of acknowledging and addressing the challenges faced by students and communities of color in the United States. The summit, held at The I-Hotel and Conference Center, brought together over 300 attendees, mostly comprised of UIUC students, to engage in discussions about historical and contemporary perspectives on resilience and resistance.

The event featured a diverse range of guest speakers, organizations, and partners, providing valuable insights into the methodologies used by individuals and communities to overcome obstacles encountered in educational settings.

City staff members also participated in the summit, eager to learn from the experiences shared and gain a deeper understanding of how resilience and resistance can be utilized to navigate and combat issues within academic environments.

The University of Illinois' Black & Latinx Summit served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of unity, empowerment, and collective action in the face of adversity. Through events like these, communities are able to come together, share their stories, and inspire one another to stand strong in the face of challenges.
