The City of Champaign has announced its Holiday Tree Collection Program for residential properties within the city's corporate limits. The collection date is set for Monday, January 8, 2024. Residents are reminded to place their trees within four feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on that day for collection.

According to the city, the collected trees will be chipped and made into garden mulch. However, it is important to note that trees with stands, decorations, tinsel, lights, artificial snow/frost, plastic bags, garland, or any other non-recyclable materials will not be collected.

For those who are unable to participate in the curbside collection, the Landscape Recycling Center at 1210 E. University Avenue in Urbana offers free disposal of holiday trees during the months of January and February.

The city emphasizes that all trees must be placed on the curb for pickup by 6 a.m. on January 8, 2024. While pickup is weather dependent, the city assures residents that trees will be collected as quickly as possible.

In expressing their gratitude, the City of Champaign would like to thank residents who actively participate in yard waste collection programs. To stay informed about future events, residents are encouraged to sign up at the City's website, champaignil.gov/email-subscription-lists.

With the Holiday Tree Collection Program, the City of Champaign aims to promote environmental sustainability by providing residents with a convenient and eco-friendly way to dispose of their holiday trees.
