Bennett: 'Thank you for the invitation to speak to the Daughters of the American Revolution at the Doubletree in Bloomington'

In a May 16 Facebook post, Sen. Thomas M. Bennett shared a visit with Daughters of the American Revolution in Bloomington.

“Thank you for the invitation to speak to the Daughters of the American Revolution at the Doubletree in Bloomington," he wrote on Facebook. "Glad to join Rep Tipsword at this great event. Wonderful turnout! DAR is a special organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education! Thank you for all you do! We need you.”

DAR provides scholarships for students and grants for non-profits.

DAR was founded on October 11, 1890. The objectives laid forth in the first meeting of the DAR have remained the same in 125 years of active service to the nation. Those objectives are: Historical - to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence; Educational - to carry out the injunction of Washington in his farewell address to the American people, "to promote, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge, thus developing an enlightened public opinion…"; and Patriotic - to cherish, maintain, and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of liberty.

DAR wrote is has seen approximately a million members since its inception.

Mississippi Valley Publishing reported that the "127th Illinois State Conference will be on April 27-30 in Bloomington."

DAR also offers a decorative arts museum that features early 20th century America items, an art gallery and study gallery at 1776 D Street North West in Washington, D.C.

The Rochelle News-Leader reported that Zalak Patel received one of only 10 ILDAR general scholarships that are available to students who will be attending a college or university in Illinois.

Vote Smart noted Bennett has a strong voting history against abortion policies. He voted against establishing a resolution for supporting reproductive rights.

Bennett was appointed to fill the seat of outgoing Sen. Jason Barickman in 2023, after Barickman stepped down in December 2022.
