Chambana Sun

There were 46 offenders living in Champaign County released on parole during the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Chambana Sun.

The data shows 44 men and two women were released in Champaign County. The median age of the parolees was 35. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old man sentenced for a crime involving one or more weapons in 2022, and the oldest was a 60-year-old man sentenced for a property crime in 2017.

The offender incarcerated the longest was Anthony Hayes. He was convicted of homicide in 1997 when he was 26 years old. He is now 51.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
