U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Decatur) is blaming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for leaving many voters without answers after forcing Republicans off the House Select Committee now probing the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“It’s very disappointing because I think all of us were looking forward to our first hearing next week to be able to get answers to some of the questions raised by Leader McCarthy, by Ranking Member Banks, and by Jim Jordan,” Davis said at a recent Washington news conference.
After Pelosi rejected both Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Jim Banks (R-Indiana) as two of the five appointments Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was allowed to make to the 12-member panel, McCarthy yanked all his appointments in protest.
“We’re not going to get those answers even in a partisan manner on this committee because she (Speaker Pelosi) chose to take the unprecedented step to try and veto our own members,” Davis said. “There are many issues that we saw Capitol Police, IG reports and others that laid out reasons why our officers didn’t have the equipment, they didn’t have the training, and they didn’t have the preparation and the backup to adequately address what happened on January 6.”
Pelosi has since added Republican Reps. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Liz Cheney of Wyoming to the panel, which held its first official hearing on July 27.
