State Rep. Brad Halbrook is trying to help local families with unemployment problems by requesting that video conferencing be used to resolve IDES claims.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is getting a bad rap for not handling applications for unemployment assistance well. In fact, many Illinoisans struggling through the pandemic are complaining that IDES staff has either hung up on them or refused to help them with unemployment assistance. This has come to Halbrook's and other House Republicans’ attention.

Halbrook criticized Gov. J.B. Pritzker for not doing enough to fix this problem. Halbrook said of Pritzker, “He needs to stop shifting blame for this failure and work with us to fix it.”

According to Halbrook, the most immediate remedy to this problem is to use video conferencing between claimants and IDES agents. He said that making phone calls to IDES is not enough and many of his constituents are complaining that they couldn’t even get anyone to answer their calls. With video conferencing says it would be harder for IDES agents to refuse helping claimants.
