Q2 2020 Recap: Parolees in Champaign County convicted of crimes involving weapons

There were 15 offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons released on parole in Champaign County during the second quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Chambana Sun.

The data shows that 14 men and one woman were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for crimes involving weapons was 28. The youngest parolee was a 18-year-old man sentenced in 2019, and the oldest was a 39-year-old woman sentenced in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Ishmel Jackson. He was convicted in 2011 when he was 23 years old. He is now 32.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
