Urbana Fire District responded to 1109 calls in 2018 - 9.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Urbana included 151 fires - 94 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 45 other fires. The fire department also responded to 13 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $722,433 in fire loss - or about $4,784 per fire.

The department also received 945 false calls, including 70 malicious calls and 875 other false calls.

The Urbana Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 55 active employees and 58 retired or inactive employees, was $3,079,480 positive as of June 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $17,398 for every fire in 2017.
