Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Inc issued the following announcement on Sept. 11.
The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Foundation wants you to participate in our first ever Scarecrow Hunt to benefit the iRead • iCount program.
All you have to do is decorate your best scarecrow(s) outside your place of business - bonus points for creativity! (rules apply)
The Chamber will promote the event to the Champaign County community across multiple platforms. The hunt is intended to be family-oriented activity that will encourage people to visit our local businesses; give families a break from the stress of COVID and encourage people to be outdoors before the weather changes.
Scarecrows will be displayed between Monday, October 19 and Monday, November 2.
Participation fee: $75 (per business/location)
Money raised from this event will go towards materials and other operating expenses associated with the iRead • iCount program. iRead • iCount is a community initiative designed to help reduce the achievement gap in our schools. It gives the students who need extra help with reading and math additional one-on-one instructional time with a caring volunteer.
In order to have time to promote the participating businesses and their scarecrows, the sign-up deadline is Friday, October 9. Have fun with it. Engage your staff and test their creativity. A prize will be awarded for the most ‘voted’ on scarecrow.
