ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 104: Rep. Mike Marron proud to see State education grant approved in Rantoul

By Press release submission | Sep 11, 2019

Illinois State House District 104 issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.

State Representative Mike Marron (R-Fithian) was able to provide support to Rantoul City Schools Superintendent Michelle Ramage as she applied to a special state education grant that would help the RCS implement a parent mentorship program within the school system.

“DREAAM House is excited to partner with Rantoul City Schools on a new grant to empower and equip Parent Mentors to work in schools. This was made possible through the assistance of Rep. Mike Marron and making connections with the Parent Mentor Program coordinator in Chicago,” said Superintendent Michelle Ramage.

The Parent Mentor Program (PMP) is a coordinated campaign to build networks of parent leaders to address equity gaps in classrooms, in schools, and in the broader community where their families work, play, and learn. The heart and soul of the Parent Mentor Program are the Parent Mentors.

Each school will have a team of Parent Mentors that are each volunteering in a specific, designated classroom, attending regular workshops and trainings, and finding ways to demonstrate their leadership outside the classroom. Parent Mentors are not placed in their own child’s classroom.

Founded in 2015, DREAAM House (Driven to Reach Excellence and Academic Achievement for Males), a 501(c)3 community impact organization, creates and implements community-based programs for boys and young men who promise to overcome obstacles and succeed in school, at home, and in life. DREAAM House was able to collaborate with RCS to accept the state grant and work to implement the program within the school system.

“I am so happy to hear that the RCS system received the state grant to administer this very encouraging and effective program. The Rantoul City Schools are doing a great job finding creative solutions to support their community education system and this is another great tool to aid their education mission,” said Rep. Marron.
