Fighting Illini freshman Erica Finney will not play in the 2025-26 women's basketball season after undergoing surgeries on both knees during the preseason, the University of Illinois announced.

"Unfortunately, I have had to undergo surgery, which will sideline me for the season," said Finney. "I am extremely grateful for my teammates, coaches, and support staff who have helped me through this period, and I am excited for my journey to recovery. I can't wait for what is to come for the team and to see the results of our work this season."

Finney is a 6-foot guard from Sydney, Australia. She joined Illinois in December 2024 but has not yet played for the team. Before coming to Illinois, she was part of New South Wales teams that won Australian National Championships in 2022 and 2024. She also competed with the Norths Bears in Australia's NBL1 League and attended Cammeraygal High School.

Finney was rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, ranked No. 47 nationally in her class and No. 14 at her position.
