Illinois State Senate District 51 issued the following announcement on May 1.
Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) released the following statement after the Illinois Senate passed legislation to create a graduated income tax system:
"This graduated income tax scheme hasn’t even become law yet and we’re already seeing the rates change. Sponsors of the plan have completely refused to entertain adding any protections for working families by putting rates in to the constitutional amendment or requiring a super majority vote to raise rates. The component of the plan they claim is ‘property tax relief’ is a joke that won’t do a thing to stop your property taxes from going up year after year. Everyone should be very clear, this is a tax hike that will lead to more tax hikes, plain and simple. And they haven’t even tried to cut spending before asking for more from the taxpayers. The working families of this state don’t have any more to give."
