The Illinois football team has been ranked #25 in the latest College Football Playoff Top 25, as announced by the CFP committee on Tuesday. This marks the third occasion that Illinois has appeared in these rankings in its program history.

Illinois, with a record of 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the Big Ten, was previously ranked twice during the 2022 season. That year, they concluded with an 8-4 record and participated in the ReliaQuest Bowl held in Tampa.

In their recent game, Illinois secured a significant victory over Michigan State at home, winning by 22 points. The team's defense recorded five sacks, while running back Josh McCray scored three touchdowns. Wide receiver Pat Bryant contributed with 135 receiving yards and one touchdown, leading to a decisive 38-16 win for Illinois.

Looking ahead, Illinois will finish their regular season with consecutive Big Ten road games. Their next matchup is against Rutgers this Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET on Peacock.
