I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
With a quorum present, Mayor Marlin called the public hearing to order at 7:01 p.m.
Mayor Marlin opened the hearing and stated the purpose of the hearing, which was to receive public input on a proposed property tax increase for the City of Urbana for 2018. She read from the newspaper publication, as follows:
The corporate and special purpose property taxes extended or abated for 2017 were $7, 559,335. The proposed corporate and special service property taxes to be levied for 2018 are $9,095,394. This represents a 20.3% increase over the previous year.
The city intends to reduce the tax levy so that the current tax rates remain in place. The city share of the total property tax bill is approximately 13%. If hospital properties are considered taxable and properties that are currently exempt are added to the tax rolls, the city intends to reduce their tax rates to $1.3152.
Mayor Marlin opened the public hearing. No one came forward.
