Gifford Fire Protection District responded to 19 calls in 2017 - 26.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Gifford included eight fires - two vehicle fires and six other fires.

In all, the department saw $5,500 in fire loss - or about $688 per fire.

The department also received 11 false calls.

The Gifford Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $153,515 in 2017.
