Champaign City Council issued the following announcement on June 18.
In order to investigate and repair a sinkhole in the intersection of Second and Daniel Streets, the City of Champaign has closed the southbound lane of Second Street north of Daniel Street and the westbound lane of Daniel Street at Second Street. Excavation for investigation of the sinkhole cause and subsequent repair are scheduled to start Tuesday, June 19 at 7:00 am, scheduled completion is expected on Friday, June 22.
Additional lane closures may be required during construction depending on the extent of the sinkhole. Traffic delays will occur. The City appreciates the cooperation of travelers in the area and encourages caution when traveling through work zones.
