Champaign City Council issued the following announcement on May 11.
City of Champaign employees worked on their team building skills and a good cause earlier today. A Habitat for Humanity home build was the culminating event in the City’s celebration of National Public Service Recognition Week. Approximately 20 City employees worked on several Habitat homes under construction in Urbana.
“To celebrate Public Service Recognition Week, City staff wanted to work on a service project that would allow them to give back to our community,” said Jeff Hamilton, Communications Manager for the City of Champaign. “This project allowed employees who may not normally work together, an opportunity to work as a team on this Habitat project. I think we all found it to be a very uplifting and rewarding experience.”
Sheila Dodd, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County said, “It was wonderful to have employees from the City of Champaign out helping with our home build today. We rely upon community volunteers to create comfortable and affordable housing for those in need. We’re so appreciative of the City of Champaign and all the volunteers who helped out today.”
