Rantoul ranked 627th in state in lottery ticket sales for January 2016

The Village of Rantoul had the 627th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of January 2016 -- down 316 spots from its December ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Rantoul was $19.62 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Chambana Sun, Rantoul generated $255,200.50 in net sales from its 10 lottery retailers in January 2016, compared to $207,579.50 in January 2015.

The Village of Rantoul is in Champaign County, and has a population of 13,008, according to 2010 census data.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in January 2016 was $27,030.38.

Rantoul's top lottery retailer is County Market #568 located at 1201 E Grove Ave, Rantoul, IL 61866.

County Market #568 generated 35 percent of Rantoul's January 2016 lottery ticket sales and 3 percent of Champaign County's sales that month, which was $3,054,434.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Champaign County in 2015 were Ogden, Gifford, Mahomet, Rantoul and Thomasboro.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
