Crews from the Champaign Fire Department were called to a house fire at 4809 W. Windsor Road, Apt. A13 at 4:10 a.m. the morning of Sept. 5.
Firefighters reported that smoke and flames could be seen from the road when they arrived. Crews immediately began efforts to extinguish the blaze.
The fire was first reported by a neighbor who called 911. Approximately 26 responders using 12 pieces of fire, rescue or EMS equipment answered the call. Fire crews were able to get the blaze under control by 4:38 a.m., with no injuries to firefighters or homeowners.
The one person who lives in the home was not present at the time of the fire. Fire investigators have not determines what caused the blaze.
An estimated amount of damage was not immediately available. The Champaign Fire Department reminds homeowners to maintain a working smoke alarm in their residence and develop a fire escape route for everyone in the home.
