The Champaign County Nursing Home Board of Directors met Feb. 8 and heard questions and concerns from the public regarding hot food for the nursing home residents.
During the meeting, the board discussed steam tables. The Illinois Department of Public Health must approve plans for steam tables. Among the concerns expressed was that residents could be injured by the exposed heating elements on steam tables.
Also discussed were ways to increase Medicare admissions. While non-Medicare admissions have not increased, Medicare admission have.
The board heard reports regarding recruitment. An offer had been made for the dementia care coordinator position, while the nursing home is also recruiting for activities, maintenance and transportation positions. The difficulty of recruiting for management and care plan coordinator positions was discussed.
Finally, the transition to electronic medical records at the nursing home was discussed. Among the advantages of maintaining electronic records is the easy communication between staff members regarding residents' problems and preferences. When the items are logged into the computer, the staff on other shifts can view the information and facilitate changes if necessary.
