The city plans to extend Lincoln Avenue from Saline Court to Olympian Drive.
City officials will notify Janet Scharlau of 3610 N. Lincoln Ave., William Cope of 4018 N. Lincoln Ave., and Larry Corumn of 1507 Glenshire Drive in Champaign of their intention in hopes of reaching an agreement on the city's use of the right of way near those privately owned properties.
Eminent domain is a legal principle that allows governments to claim privately owned property for public use, in exchange for money paid to the private property owners, as long as the reason is justified to be in the interest of the public good.
