Central High students take top awards at Eric Show art contest

Artwork by students from Champaign Central High School took home the top two prizes at this year's Eric Show for high school art.

Diana Golmeeva won Best in Show and Audrey Akins won first place.

More than 200 pieces from 190 students at 18 local schools was submitted to the juried exhibition.

The show is named for local standout high school art student Eric Steffensen, who was killed by a drunk driver in 1970.

The show will be on display through April 3 at the Illini Union Art Gallery, 1401 W. Green St. in Urbana.
