The Champaign Unit 4 school board of education will hold a special meeting this evening at the Savoy Recreation Center to vote on approving the Tier II members of a new facility plan subcommittee.
The effort at developing a district-wide facilities plan was divided into two subcommittees. The first, Tier I, will be made up of school staff and and faculty. Tier II is meant to be comprised of local government officials, business leaders and community members.
Tier I will develop facilities recommendations for the board based on its on-the-ground experience in the schools. Tier II will vet those recommendations and be responsible for passing on the final list of suggestions to the board.
The proposed Tier II members include board members Chris Kloeppel and Amy Armstrong, City of Champaign representatives Paul Faraci and Will Kyles, Champaign Park District representatives Tim McMahon and Craig Hayes, village of Savoy representative R. Dee Shonkwiler, MTD representative Brad Diel, Champaign County Chamber of Commerce representative Laura Weis, Economic Development Council representative Craig Rost, and members from the Black Chamber of Commerce and the community at-large who have not yet been announced.
Steve Carter is the proposed facilitator.
Matt Foster will present an update on the district's plans to create a new transportation facility. District officials said a detailed design has been drafted in cooperation with several school departments, and that a collaboration with Gorski-Reifsteck and O’Shea Builders is expected.
The board will review a presentation from Savoy officials on the village's plans for growth and how that growth may affect the school district.
The board will also review the proposed termination of aide Scott Christenson.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at 402 Graham Drive in Savoy.
