Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing will unveil her 2016 legislative agenda tonight at a meeting of the Committee of the Whole.
Prussing will propose a ban on new landfills and landfill expansion over the Mahomet aquifer, a list of binding arbitration reforms, and a cell phone surcharge to pay for increased 911 funding. Prussing will also propose an increased gas tax to help pay for high-speed rail or other transit projects, and a transaction tax on trades made on Chicago exchanges. Prussing estimates this tax alone could generate $10 billion annually.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Urbana City Building, 400 S. Vine St.
