Sens. Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) last week called on President Barack Obama to confirm whether Iran's recent ballistic missile testing violated United Nations guidelines and, if so, to explain how the White House will respond.
“As you know, Tehran reportedly conducted a long-range ballistic missile test this weekend," the senators said in a letter to the president. "This test furthers Iran’s intercontinental ballistic missile program and heightens risks to Israel and the United States."
The test firing came at a particularly sensitive time between the U.S. and Iran, after the two nations brokered a controversial nuclear accord in July. Obama administration officials have said that while the test may have violated U.N rules, it did not directly violate this summer's nuclear agreement.
