Illinois forward David Mirkovic has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday. Mirkovic, who is from Niksic, Montenegro, has received this recognition in both weeks at the start of the 2025-26 season.

During the week of November 10-16, Mirkovic averaged 19 points and 12.5 rebounds across two wins for Illinois. In a game against Colgate, he recorded career highs with 27 points and 21 rebounds, marking the first time in 53 years that an Illinois player achieved a 20 point-20 rebound performance. His 21 rebounds also set a new single-game record for an Illini freshman, surpassing the previous record of 17.

In addition to his performance against Colgate, Mirkovic scored 11 points and added four rebounds, two steals, and one assist in Illinois' victory over No. 11 Texas Tech.

The No. 8 Fighting Illini will play again on Wednesday night in Chicago against No. 11 Alabama at the United Center. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT. Tickets can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com.
